February 2008 - TREX has announced the new Escapes decking line will be available within 2 months for retail and installation. March 2008:  New Treated Lumber Changes!!  At long last, the lumber industry has switched to a new treatment for decking and framing components.  Known as L-3 or Wolmanized, the new treated lumber will be available immediately for installation.  The new treatment process is less corrosive to fasteners, shrinks less and will dry more consistently/straight, and above all is tan in color.  The new color, unlike the old green, is very appealing visually with a cedar like finish to it.  Available in a 5/4X6 plank, we've partnered with a vendor to provide excellent pricing on this option.  Strong, durable, and now good looking, treated lumbe decking will undoubtedly regain some market share.  Contact us for amazingly good princing on this new product!!

April 2008:  Low voltage lighting gets even better...  We've begun to install a new digital screen transformer in conjunction with low voltage lighting systems.  The new transformer incorporates a digital, two stage screen, with settings from 1-9.  The settings will control dimmer capability, and also hours lit after dusk via a photocell behind the screen.  This system is incredibly sharp looking, and more user friendly than ever!!

May 2008:  Concealed fastening options continue to improve.  FastenMaster has brought their new Cortex Concealed Fastening System to market.  The system combines the true holding power of a traditional top fastener, with the often demanded clean look of a concealed fastener.  We believe this is a major improvement to previous concealed fastening systems, which would require the removal of most or all decking to replace or alter one plank.  The product will be available in TREX, AZEK, and Timber-Tech decking lines.  To learn more, click here http://www.fastenmaster.com/product.aspx?currentPage=2&catID=2&prodID=14

June 2008:  We are pleased to announce that TREX has informed us they will be holding the line on all decking prices through the end of this year.  In response to growing consumer aggravation over ever changing raw material prices and transport costs, TREX will be holding all pricing at current levels through the end of 2008.  Act now to lock in this opportunity!!

July 2008:  Summer is under full swing, and scheduling is tight!!  People are often surprised at available start dates this time of year.  We urge people to keep one thing in mind, if someone in this business is available to start your deck or project tomorrow, chances are you may not want them working for you.  Companies with solid repuations and good referral networks will always be busy this time of year, if they're not, something is amiss.  Also, remember to allow time for your HOA and building permit approvals (if required).

August 2008:  AZEK decking has announced a promotional rebate program through the end of the month.  The program will offer a rebate of $1 per lineal foot of decking, up to 1500 l.f. purchased.  If you're interested in PVC decking, it's a great chance to get PVC decking for less than the price of a normal composite.  Contact us for more details...

September 2008:  Decks Unlimited is pleased to announce our ongoing support of the local Denver/Boulder area Better Business Bureau, with our annual renewal.  The BBB has switched to a new rating system, grading companies on a "A-F" scale.  We are pleased to announce that Decks Unlimited has a perfect "A" ratiing with the Denver/Boulder BBB.  Be sure to check BBB reports on any business you are considering using, it's an invaluable resource, and free for consumers to check online.  See the following link; http://denver.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=33&bbb=0885&firm=59025518

October 2008:  Building code changes are underway!!  As many local building departments are slowly but surely switching to the 2006 IRC Codes, many decks under 30" in height are now required to be permitted.  Previously, in most areas, 30" in height from grade was the standard for whether or not the deck needed a permit.  Permits are now required for ALL decks in Parker, Centennial, and Douglas County, to name a few.  We advise you to check your local building code for applicable revisions before you start your project, or contact us for assistance with the new codes.

November 2008:  We are pleased to announce the addition of Fiberon to our regulary stocked composite decking inventory.  The second largest manufacturer of composites, Fiberon has brought some excellent new products to market.  One of which would be the new Horizons deck board.  A combination of traditional wood composite with a PVC casing, it brings the value and proven longevity of a standard composite along with the rugged exterior of a PVC board.  For more details, go to www.fiberondecking.com!!

December 2008:  The holdiay seasons are upon us!!  Most outdoor builders, landscapers, and similar professions are slowing down at this point.  A good time for reflection upon the past year, to bring new ideas for the next.  To all of our customers from this year and past, thank you for your ongoing support and referrals!!  Happy clients and good referrals are what make all of us here continue to strive to be the best in our field.  We wish everyone a happy and joyous holiday season!!

January 2009:  To say that interesting economic trends are underway would be an understatement.  This is not limited to automotive or financial companies, we expect to see considerable consolidation (and thinning) of the outdoor living market.  The large, reputable companies like TREX, Tamko Evergrain, Choice-Deck, and others will certainly survive.  Some of the newer brands, particulary those making unrealistic claims and/or promises, will begin to falter.  With (at last count) almost 100 companies in the composite/PVC market, we expect that number to decline.  Be sure to keep this in mind when making your product choices, warranties and promises are only as good as the company standing behind them!!  The same set of circmustances also applies to contractors and installers, we've seen several fold in the last few months alone.

February 2009:
Warm weather and mild conditions have jumpstarted the building season for us this year.  These conditions make for a great opportunity to have your project completed before the spring and summer seasons arrive.  Our standard off season discounts are in effect until March 31st.  Beat the rush this year!!

March 2009:  PVC decking continues to garner market share.  Schedule to date thus far indicates approximately 1/3 of our scheduled jobs will be PVC (primarily TREX Escapes or AZEK).  This is up from 10% at this point last year.  An interesting market trend to say the least...stay tuned...

April 2009:  Fortress Iron Railing Systems, one of our preferred vendors, has announced the availability of their solid rail system (full wrought iron) in two additional finishes.  Antique Bronze and Rustic Brown will be the new colors added to the lineup.  Previously only available in black or white, this is sure to please those interested in solid iron rail at prefabricated pricing.  Tentative word is availability mid summer...

May 2009:  AZEK brings two new colors to market.  "Kona" and "Fawn" are being added to an already outstanding lineup.  Try www.azek.com for a first preview.  Availability is carefully described as late July.  Much darker and with more earth tones than the original five colors, we're positive these will be a hit!!

June 2009:  TREX is coming to town!!  CEO and all, TREX will be visiting Westminster for a contractor's only "Walk The Walk" tour!!  An invaluable opportunity for contractor feedback and "field testimonials", it demonstrates TREX continued leadership by listening to those who know the product best!!  We have never seen another decking company strive so hard to understand where, why and how it can improve a product line that is without doubt the market leader...Kudos to TREX!!

July-December 2009:  Not much news to report, other than another unbelievably busy season for Decks Unlimited, despite nagging economic news.  Keep an eye on the before/after photo galleries for two large jobs in Highlands Ranch that will be added soon.  Two of our best ever!!

January 2010:  TREX Transcends will be the newest product launched this year.  This is a traditional composite plank wrapped on three sides with a proprietary nine material mix.  The bottom is left as traditional composite to allow for functional breathing of the core.  Low sheen, deep grain, and an uprecedented 25 YEAR FADE AND STAIN warranty guarantee make this line very attractive.  We expect to see extremely strong sales of this product line in the coming year.  Pricing lands between TREX Accents composite and TREX Escapes PVC.  Hit the TREX link on our site for more info!!

February 2010:  We are extremely pleased to announce the completion of a new agreement with our suppliers in regards to pricing on the Evergrain Vibrance line.  Considered by many here to be the most attractive composite product available, we will now be able to retail the Vibrance line in pricing on an almost par level with other popular composite lines. This equates to about a $2 per sq. ft. reduction!!  Vibrance colors include Golden Oak, Cherrywood and Rustic Birch.

April 2010:  AZEK has announced several new and exciting colors coming to market.  Redland Rose, Morado, and Acacia join their already outstanding line as additions that will incorporate color streaking and variance, much like the TREX Brasilia and Fiberon Horizon decking lines.  Hit the link on our site for more info!

May 2010:  We often have customers who look to save some money by going to a generic or big box product line for their decking choice.  When you think about it, who isn't interested in saving a few bucks here and there?  Timbertech now offers Reliaboard, available in both Gray & Cedar, as an option to compete for this segment of the market.  This product is designed to compete directly with some of the upstarts and generic brands, but offers the same great warranty and support we've come to know from a market leader.  It's a great choice to consider for a budget oriented project.

August 2010:  Hidden or concealed fastening systems continue to gather interest for decking.  Though one cannot argue with the extremely clean finished look, it's important when considering these systems to be aware of what is involved.  Hidden fastening systems are much like a tongue and groove hardwood floor.  Planks in the field (middle of the deck) cannot be removed and replaced with ease like a top fastened deck.  Typically, to access the under side of the deck or framing, it's necessary to start at the outer edge of the deck and work back to the area in question.  This is especially worth considering if you have a ground level deck with sprinkler control valves, utilities, or anything of importance below the deck.

November 2010:  TREX will be adding two colors to their Transcends line, Spiced Rum and Lava Rock.  Much like the existing and very popular Fiberon Horizons line, these colors will have varied color and streaking.  Composite companies are pushing ahead with wrapped composite decking, and we believe this will be the future of our business.  The new colors make a total of six offerings within the TREX Transcends product line.

January 2011:  Timbertech will be adding wrapped composite decking to their offerings this year, adding momentum to the fastest growing segment of the market.  The new Evolutions decking will carry a 25 year no fade/no stain guarantee, making it a touch choice to ignore.  As a family owned company with a reputation for outstanding customer service, we are very excited about the new Evolutions product line.  Colors will be Rosewood, Teak and Walnut.  These colors join the current XLM offerings, making for a great set of choices within the Timbertech brand.

February 2011:  Just a reminder to our customers who live in pre 1978 homes, the controversial EPA rules with regards to lead paint abatement and dust control ARE IN EFFECT as of January 1st, 2011.  Without getting into specifics and writing a short novel, if you live in a pre 1978 home, you are required to have an EPA certified "RRP" contractor perform the work.  The fines and/or penalties are staggering, they can be over $30,000 per day.  Though we certainly don't agree with the new policy, Decks Unlimited has taken the necessarry lead abatement training, and obtained firm certification with the EPA.  Again, this only applies to homes built prior to 1978.
